Mountains' emerald beauty.
Both the emerald stone and the Soča river are characterised by their colour, which is a symbol of revival and new life. The precious stone and the river share the harmony of transparent green light, colourful peacefulness and refreshment.
What else could the journey along the Soča river be but a search for beauty condensed in an emerald, what else but the quenching of the soul yielded to man by virgin water, an eternal feature of the Alps?
Water sports on Soča river
The emerald waters of the Soča and its tributaries evoke feelings of flowing excitement in a rapidly growing number of admirers. White water enthusiasts float down the river in large rubber boats - rafting, with the kayakers braving the tumbling rapids even more numerous.
Adventurous Soča water lovers also enjoy the hydrospeed and canyoning, entrusting their bodies to the many big and small waterfalls, channels, hollows and ponds so they almost become part of the river, following its carved path and rhythm.
From 1st April, when the winter close season is over, its banks are full of fly-fishermen duelling with the salma trutta marmoratus, the famous Soča trout.
Its creator and vein of life is the Soča, which is considered one of the most beautiful European rivers; the ‘nightingale of Gorizia’, the popular 19th century poet Simon Gregorčič, once called it ‘the clear daughter of the mountains’.
